The client resides in a house in Paris, located inside a city block. From the first floor, he has a view of a 30 m² zinc roof, which he wanted to green to combat urban heat islands, reduce light reflections, attenuate the noise of rain, and for aesthetic and ecological reasons.
Challenges encountered :
- Limited weight : The reduced load-bearing capacity of the roof required greening that did not exceed 50 kg/m².
- Difficult access : Access to the roof required a 50-meter walk on foot, only by passing through the client’s home.
Bryoflor proposed an innovative solution including :
- A drainage mat to protect the mosses from zinc-laden water,
- Adapted vegetated mats,
- A bird protection net.
This solution perfectly addressed the constraints :
- The roof, slightly north-facing, offered ideal conditions for moss development,
- The total weight of the solution, even when wet, was limited to 16 kg/m²,
- The materials, light and custom-cut in the workshop, were easy to transport and install.
Implementation :
The elements were installed in April 2024 in half a day. The drainage layer was glued directly onto the zinc (whose ten-year warranty had expired), and the vegetated mats were placed on top of the drainage mat.
Results after 8 months :
It was observed that the mosses had successfully withstood the summer, which was particularly favorable this year, and were developing correctly. A light reseeding will help achieve complete coverage more quickly.
