Presentation
The vegetal moss mats are composed of a non-woven geotextile felt sewn with a trellis on which moss has been grown. Several species compositions are available to adapt to different situations (sun, light, light shade, deep shade)
Reception
Moss mats can only survive transport conditions for a few days. It is therefore important to install them quickly after delivery. If they must be stored temporarily, they must be unrolled and hydrated (storage > 48 hours, be careful not to hydrate them too much in order to maintain a reasonable weight of the mat (5kg/m²) and to facilitate the installation of the mat).
Precautions
- Metals: Mosses are sensitive to certain metals, especially zinc and copper. Water drainage from metal facades or from galvanized or copper sheets must not come into contact with the moss mat. Where appropriate, the moss mat should be installed over a drainage layer.
- PH >7: Mosses are sensitive to alkaline environments, especially freshly poured concrete. It should be checked that the pH of the environment is < 7. Concrete floors can be treated with a solution of acetic acid, for example, otherwise the moss mats should be insulated with a plastic film.
- Water : Moss cannot survive more than a month completely submerged. If the surface to be covered has permanent puddles of water, the moss mats should be raised so that the moss is out of the water.
Installation
- In gardens: They can be installed directly on the soil, provided there is no plant growth in that area. Otherwise, it is necessary to protect against weeds by using a root-resistant geotextile or a plastic film. They are secured to the ground using staples.
- On roof terraces: Moss mats can be installed on the waterproofing layer and mechanically secured by weighting (approximately 8 kg/m² with pebbles, paving stones, etc.).
- On roof terraces: Moss mats can be installed on the waterproofing layer and mechanically secured by weighting (approximately 8 kg/m² with pebbles, paving stones, etc.).
- On roofs: Fixation is done using adhesive.
Maintenance
The moss mats do not require any particular maintenance, it is necessary to ensure that the leaves of the trees do not decompose on them.
Seeds that could be brought from outside do not survive periods of drought.
When carpets benefit from natural watering, irrigation is strongly discouraged (non-calcareous water, no watering in hot weather).
